Diptera: Bombyliidae
Bombylius sp
While walking near the track to Millers Landing I spotted this hairy yellow fly with large eyes and a long proboscis hovering between the shrubs and clumps of grass. It had an almost cartoonish appearance. I later identified as one of the bee-flies.
It hovered and flew slowly examining the vegetation on each side, and I was able to follow it for a short while before I lost it. I was hoping it would land so that I could get a better photograph of it.
